Question: What role do politics and current events play in making changes to Miranda?
Answer: Well I think with the current politics, as far as terrorism and trying to be tough on terrorism, I think you’re starting to see a weakening of Miranda and the rights that go along with Miranda. Especially when you start talking about the public safety exception, I think at that point, the courts are, at least the FBI in general, the FBI is trying to rely upon the public safety exception in their questioning of potential terrorism or things that potentially could be a homeland threat.
